THE BOSS AT
THE COLISEUM
Calling it one of the biggest concerts to ever be held in the venue,
management at the North Charleston Coliseum announced that veteran
rocker Bruce Springsteen — "The Boss" himself — and the E Street Band
are solid for Sat. Aug. 16. Springsteen, 58, has been writing music and
making albums since the early '70s. Released last fall, Magic
(Columbia) is Springsteen's latest studio recording and his first with
the E Street Band in five years. The album features 11 new Springsteen
songs. Tickets for reserved seats go on sale Fri. June 27, and are
available for $30, $66, and $96 at the Coliseum ticket office, all
Ticketmaster outlets (including select Publix grocery stores), by phone
at (843) 554-6060, or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Check out www.brucespringsteen.net and www.coliseumpac.com for more. —T. Ballard Lesemann
MB ROAD TRIP
Fresh from the famed Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Colorado's Yonder
Mountain String Band hits the road this month with co-headliner, guitar
and loop-pedal maniac Keller Williams. The acts share the stage at the
House of Blues in Myrtle Beach on Sat. June 28 at 9 p.m. Tickets are
$30 ($25 adv.). Yonder, a decade-old bluegrass quartet, is currently
supporting their fifth installment of a live album series, Mountain Tracks: Vol. 5
— a double-disc, 24-song collection featuring cuts chosen by the band.
Disc one offers up tracks from various shows that span their recent
career. Disc Two pulls from a 2007 show in Columbus, Ohio. Keeping true
to form, Yonder has put together a fine sampling of live recordings
that exemplify their energy-laden bluegrass. At the House of Blues,
fans can expect lots of foot stompin' improv, uptempo jams, and,
inevitably, a little help from Keller, too. For ticket info, check out www.yondermountain.com. Check the venue's full schedule at www.hob.com. —John Zara
